Job Description
Overview

VTG is seeking a Production Planner (Fab Shop) located in Virginia Beach, VA.


What will you do?

While working in a fast pace environment, analyses, plans, organizes and develops a production package document for the production departments. Provides technical support to production departments as well as customer. Has a thorough knowledge of fabrication and production processes, procedures and shop practices. Review the customer's request, drawings and necessary specifications to prepare and plan for quoting. Plan methods and estimate operation times, develop drawings and sketches for the manufacturing components and assemblies utilizing knowledge and experience in following areas: CNC and manual machining, welding, sheet metal forming, painting, sandblasting, mechanical assembly, and inspection methods. May perform design engineering or assist in the development of new product lines. Thoroughly familiar with the capabilities and uses of shop machinery. May provide the Project Manager with production status and implements risk response plan and recommends work-arounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepares various drawings of parts and assemblies including sectional profiles, irregular or reverse curves, hidden lines and small or intricate details.
  • Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
  • Analyze material for accuracy and submit purchase action request.
  • Simple revisions to existing drawings may be assigned with a verbal explanation of results. More complex revisions are produced from sketches which clearly depict the desired product. Adds notes to drawings and sketch to aid with clarification.
  • Uses computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software to produce moderately complex drawings for project implementation.
  • From provided information, develops a production package document for the production activities.
  • Determines and coordinates the delivery of material and equipment to shop floor and delivery of product to the installation site.
  • Responsible for the authorization of purchased materials & services to assigned projects.
  • Monitors availability of material, equipment, and tools to ensure that the proper resources are available as needed.
  • Monitors material fund budget for all materials, equipment, and tools to ensure that the proper allocation of funds are within budget.
  • Performs updates to CNC programs based on submitted CNC Change Request form.
  • Performs updates to drawings based on submitted Engineering Change Request form.
  • Use computer software to produce working drawings, sketches, and program shop machinery.
  • Identifies problem areas to the Project Manager and provides information for Condition Discrepancy Reports (CDRs) or Change Order Request Notices (CORNs) and LAR preparation including recommendations.
  • Provide technical support to production departments. Communicate with customer for all technical aspects of the task.

Do you have what it takes?

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree ( Industrial Engineering or related) or an Apprenticeship plus three years of related work experience; Associate Degree or Trade School and six years of related work experience; HS plus ten years experience of related work experience.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Ability to recognize systems of symbols, legends, shadings and lines having specific meanings in drawings. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office applications and thorough knowledge of Computer-aided Design (CAD) software and Computer-aided Manufacturing (CAM).
