Job Description
Cruz Associates Inc. of Yorktown, VA (www.cruzinc.us) has a position open and is looking for qualified candidates for an Aerospace Engineer or Mechanical Engineer.  The job location is Joint Base Langley Eustis (JBLE), Virginia in support of the Aviation Integration Directorate (AID)
Scope:  Serves as an Aerospace Engineer or Mechanical Engineer in support of AID. Provide support in the areas of aerodynamics and flight testing of aircraft (helicopter, airplane and unmanned aerial systems (UAS)).  Generate aeronautical engineering products to include:  calculations and data manipulation associated with flight testing, aircraft performance and its implication upon Mission Planning, aircraft airworthiness and aircraft design. 

Responsibilities:
  • Calculate helicopter performance based on test, published, extrapolated or estimated data.  Evaluate data for inclusion in helicopter or airplane user manuals.
  • Prepare and present technical and historical documents for Safety-of-Flight Review Boards (SOFRB).  Recommend and justify airworthiness release documents.
  • Witness the collection of helicopter performance test data and independently calculate helicopter performance.
  • Conduct preliminary design studies of various helicopters and provide comparative analysis.  Participates in design, development, test/evaluation functions, or technical data review functions related to air vehicle defense systems.
  • Evaluate the performance of software that addresses mission planning tools such as weight and balance, flight performance modules, and performance planning cards for helicopters and airplanes.
  • Develop draft statements of work and evaluate contractor data submittals and proposals in areas of expertise.
  • Assist or lead the aerodynamic analysis of contractor test plans, test reports and data for the Mission Enhanced Little Bird (MELB) Block 3 helicopter.
  • Provide assessments of software development programs for aviation application.
  • Conducts independent assignments and/or participates as a viable member of teams assigned to solve complex engineering problems. 
  • Recognized as a technical specialist that is responsible for application of advanced engineering theories, concepts, principles, and processes in the assigned areas.  Work assignments may include functional processes, equipment operation, system design, system development, and/or monitoring of contractor performance.  Proposed solutions may have no prior research or test data to leverage.  Flexibility, adaptability, and decisiveness are exercised appropriately.  Balance must be maintained between the most desirable or esoteric solution and the reality of programmatic constraints such as cost, schedule, and performance while not compromising on air vehicle safety. 
Desired Competencies: 
  • Engineering degree at the Master’s level.  (Minimum is Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering).  Preferred concentration in aerodynamics, performance, helicopter studies and flight controls.
  • Experimental Test Pilot or Flight Test Engineer.
  • Thorough understanding of 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) (SOAR (A)) aircraft.
  • A/MH-6, M/UH-60 or MH-47 U.S. Army Aviator.
  • System Integration experience with US Army aircraft.
  • Problem Solving – Expected to show initiative by identifying problems, developing sound solutions, and implementing action plans to ensure program or mission success.  The specific issue and viable solution may be linked to various disparate stakeholders and engineering disciplines.  The problem solving techniques may prove to be precedent setting as a new way to improve existing processes, policies, and programs. 
  • Teamwork/Cooperation – Works with others as required meeting project and program requirements.  Personal and group interactions are such that there is an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation.  Leads and guides others in formulating and executing team.
  • Communications – Articulates project or program results both clearly and concisely to all levels, whether internal or external.  Reviews/approves or contributes/authors management reports or contractual documents for external distribution.  Prepares and presents briefings to obtain consensus or approval.  Provides input to organizational policy changes.
  • Resource Management – Identifies, plans, optimizes, and then allocates resources (skills, budget, and schedule) to accomplish multiple project or program goals such that mission requirements and established guidelines are met. 
  • Knowledge of C-27J operations and/or US Air Force tactical lift operations.
  • Requires at least a SECRET security clearance, with an investigation completed within 5 years of the contract start date, and shall be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
