Overview
Do you enjoy pulling up your sleeves and solving the root cause of an issue? Within our Machine Specialist B position, you will use utilize your knowledge of fundamental electrical and/or mechanical principles to perform routine and unscheduled maintenance on production equipment.

This position handles the majority of the routine tasks such as trouble calls, PM schedules and minor equipment improvements. This role may also use PLC controls for troubleshooting equipment problems only. The Machine Specialist B will call upon other Specialists within their department for help on more difficult equipment problems, PLC program changes and modifications to equipment requiring more expertise.
Responsibilities
- Removes and replaces worn or defective parts of mechanical/electrical, hydraulic or pneumatics systems, using hand tools and power tools, and following schematics, diagrams and service manuals.
- Conducts functional and operational tests to evaluate performance and reliability of machinery.
- Verifies, adjusts, calibrates, aligns, and modifies machinery components for good Process Condition. Inspects and measures parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
- Solves practical problems encountered through troubleshooting existing line equipment.
- Recommends changes to simplify assembly and maintenance and or improve equipment cycle time.
- Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions.
- Starts up machines and equipment to test operation following repair or fill in when needed.
- Uses PLC programming panel and knowledge of program commands to troubleshoot equipment.
- Uses oscilloscope, digital multimeter, signal generator, power supplies, voltage calibrator and other test equipment for calibration, troubleshooting, and repair.
- May make mechanical drawings for machine shop to use in creating new parts or pieces of equipment. May set up and operate metalworking tools, such as lathe, drill press, grinder or milling machine to make or repair parts.
- May collect data on equipment conditions such as operating characteristics, malfunctions and deviations for evaluation per M.E. and/or other Machine Specialist.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience equivalent to 2-5 years' preventative maintenance experience, preferably in an automated manufacturing environment.
- Completion of Canon Technical Training Academy curriculum preferred.
- Experience with basic electrical, mechanical and pneumatic principles used in the automated manufacturing environment.
- Must be 18 years of age to apply.
