Vulcan Materials Company has Marine operations in the Northeast Division with operations in Delaware, North Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia to support our ever-strengthening aggregate footprint. We operate eight tug boats, with five acting as Harbor ships and seven linehaul in the traditional tugboat fashion.

Within marine operations, we employ the following roles:

Mechanics

Diesel, Heavy Equipment, Industrial, and Welders. Certifications are not required but are beneficial.

Harbor Captains and Harbor Deckhands

Day Shift positions primarily working Monday through Friday with Saturday work as needed. No overnight or travel is required.

Boat Captains, Linehaul Tugmates, and Linehaul Deckhands

Two weeks on, Two weeks off. Continual pay as a day rate, not only paid while working. Two per cabin.

Tugmate Trainee Program

Vulcan offers a Linehaul Tugmate trainee program with internal training for employees eager to grow within the company and show a strong aptitude in the department. The program, developed in 2009, takes approximately three to five years to complete depending on the employee's certifications when entering. Once enrolled, Vulcan provides the training and financial obligation for the necessary certificates moving forward. Since the onset, we have successfully trained eight employees to receive their credentials and qualifications with the USCG that have been promoted to Tugmates.

All qualified deckhand applicants must have valid Merchant Mariners Credentials. No other experience is required.

All Captains and Tugmates must possess a valid 200-ton towing license.
