Job Description Summary:
The Office for Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement supports GW's strategic priorities and aspirations for academic excellence by providing diversity expertise, tools, data and programming that inform and shape curricular, research, administrative and outreach activities to: improve teaching and learning outcomes; facilitate mentoring and leadership development; increase the dissemination and application of knowledge; and build and sustain vital community partnerships.

Mission & Vision Alignment:
The Multicultural Student Services Center (MSSC) at George Washington University is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Program Coordinator, focused on gender and sexuality with an emphasis on the LGBTQIA+ community. The individual in this position will play a pivotal role in promoting inclusivity, equity, and access for all members of the LGBTQIA+ community at GW. The Program Coordinator is expected to lead and support from an intersectional lens, understanding the multiple identities and lived experiences held by members of the community. Reporting to the Assistant Director of the MSSC, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for leading LGBTQIA+ and gender/sexuality educational initiatives, overseeing the LGBTQIA+ Resource Center and campus gender affirming closets, fostering leadership and mentorship opportunities for LGBTQIA+ students, and programming for Trans Awareness Week, Pride Month, Queer Formal Prom, Lavender Graduation and other opportunities.

We are seeking a justice-centered individual to fill this role. The ideal candidate should be a dedicated, self-motivated leader committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates should be grounded in critical theory, including Queer Theory and Critical Race Theory, and should operate within an intersectional framework.

Key Responsibilities:
Educational Initiatives and Programming: Develop and implement campus-wide educational initiatives and programs focused on gender, sexuality, and LGBTQIA+ topics. These initiatives aim to foster a more inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Resource Center Management: Oversee daily operations and long-term direction of the LGBTQIA+ Resource Center, including Gender Affirming Closets, ensuring a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ students.

Leadership Development: Promote leadership development and mentorship opportunities for LGBTQIA+ students to empower them to become active leaders and advocates within the university community.

Advising: Serve as a co-advisor to Queer Student Orgs, including Allied in Pride, Business Pride Network, Delta Lambda Phi, Kehila GW, oSTEM@GW, OUT In International Affairs, Persist GW, QTPOCA, and Transgender and Non-Binary Students of GWU, and convene these organizations in monthly Queer Org Meetings.

Advocacy: Promote the integration of perspectives from LGBTQIA+ students, with a specific emphasis on historically marginalized identities within the LGBTQIA+ community, into broader community programs and initiatives.

Awareness and Celebration: Lead the celebration and promotion of LGBTQIA+ awareness during LGBTQIA+ History Month, National Coming Out Day, Transgender Awareness Week, Transgender Day of Remembrance, and Pride Month. Collaborate with Alumni Affairs to engage LGBTQIA+ alums and allies.

Communication: Create written and visual communications that effectively spotlight our programming and initiatives and thoughtfully and intentionally amplify the narratives and experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals within both the GW and the local community.

The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
